 We had a looooong day of waiting today!  Taylor’s liver doctor wanted her to get an MRI of her liver, to make sure it is healthy enough to make the rex shunt surgery work.  Since she had that nodule he wanted to see if she had more.  She just got done with the MRI and we are waiting for discharge!  He came to talk to us after the MRI got done and wanted to check them “unofficially” from what he saw it looks like her liver isn’t as unhealthy as he thought it might be.  He showed us the MRI scans and what he thinks is going on with her veins that go to the liver.  It looks like they are all over the place in kind of a messy-mess with a possible blood clot.  For some reason the blood isn’t getting to her liver like it should, which we know, but don’t know exactly what’s going on.  He also thought he could see the spot that’s causing all her bleeding.  So that was interesting.  He can’t know for sure until the surgeon opens her up, but it will be cool to find out what’s going on there.  Taylor had to wait all day to eat (she couldn’t eat before the scan) and she dug into her cheeseburger, fries and ice cream as soon as we got back to the room!  We will know for sure next week if the rex shunt is a go, if it’s not there are other options but it’s not as “beautiful” (in taking care of the issues) as the rex shunt would be!  Anywho, I wanted to give an update on what we know!  We are excited to get home!

Being A Friend

 The nice thing about doing a blog and not a book is, I can write in whatever order I want, about whatever I want! Seeing as Taylors airplane ride “go fund me” was a smashing success and we are feeling ALLLL the love, I thought I would write about how to help a friend going through hard stuff.  We have been the recipients of so much generosity and love. One of the hardest things for me when someone has a tragedy strike, is knowing what to do, and what to say to them to make it better.  The thing is, nothing you say or do CAN make it better.  The person is going to hurt no matter what.  BUT, being there and doing means so much.  When Taylor got cancer, I don’t remember anything anyone said to me.  Esp during those first weeks when we were reeling with shock.  I DO remember the people that came, I remember the people that did.  When you are in a state of shock, a lot of times, you can’t even formulate what you need.  So don’t ask, unless you really don’t know.  I literally didn’t know wh

Round One

 The first week of chemo was so hard.  We were still grappling with the fact that Taylor even had cancer.  The first round (maybe the first two? Funny the details that I forget) were not inpatient.  She would have chemo and then go home and then we would go back the next day for more chemo.  They were still running tests on her so she would get chemo and after it she would have some scan or procedure.  We would spend the entire day at the hospital and then go home late, and get up the next day and repeat the same nightmare over and over again.  We were also going back and forth to see Jeremiah in the NICU.  It was brutal for us, but even more so for her.  The chemo she was getting wasn’t low dose, it was extremely toxic.  She was so exhausted. Inklings

 I believe moms are created with a gut instinct.  Long before anyone else knows something is wrong, a mom knows.  Months before Taylors illness, I knew, down deep in my soul that something was about to happen.  I had an irrational fear that one of my kids would get cancer.  If a St Jude’s commercial came on, my heart would race and I would feel so anxious, that I couldn’t watch it, and I would change the channel.  Some nights when I checked on the kids before bed, I would linger at their door and wonder which one of them would get cancer.  It’s interesting how surviving a worst fear, is incredibly faith building.   More gut feelings came when I was giving Taylor a bath one night.  Her stomach was huge and the rest of her was so skinny.  It wasn’t right.  I even pointed out her huge tummy to a friend.  There was nothing alarming, it just didn’t sit well with me.  Taylor was also sleeping a lot.  The kids had VBS one week, and Taylor would nap all the way through it.  Then when we got ho
